Pencil Power – Saturday 11th October 2014

In celebration of the UN International Day of the Girl-Child, Saturday 11th October 2014, our giant pencil weaved its way around the streets of London.

Children from the South Sudanese diaspora took the pencil on its first public outing around midday to mark the public launch of Pencil Power. It all started at the ‘Africa on the Square’ event in Trafalgar Square, organised in recognition of Black History Month 2014. The team enjoyed meeting a number of performers including members of Queen Drummers and the UK African Acrobats. The sight of the girls (and the giant pencil!) in the middle of Trafalgar Square drew lots of attention from onlookers and helped to raise awareness for our cause. The day ended in Leicester Square with an impromptu pencil limbo! Thank you to everyone who took part.
