The FIGS London volunteers have been getting their thinking caps on with their first pub quiz in April, to help raise awareness and funds for FIGS. Edith Galliers gives us a quick update on how the evening went:
Volunteers, friends and colleagues in London came together at the Waterpoet pub near Liverpool Street Station to take part in their first quiz. I would like to start by thanking the pub manager Charlotte who waived the cost of room hire and welcomed us by laying out the room with swanky tablecloths and candlelight for free, just to help out the charity. Their support means that every penny raised will go directly to FIGS.
With a FIGS London volunteer captaining six of the seven teams it was a great way to have some fun and of course raise awareness of the good work we are doing. Some of our international volunteers from South Sudan to France to Hong Kong had not taken part in a pub quiz before so were paired up with existing teams. Each entrant was asked for a £2 donation to FIGS with any additional change that they had being welcomed in to the bucket. We raised £70 (not bad for a first effort) and had a lot of fun in the process.
The teams worked hard for their points and some spot prizes of sweets help to build the mood. The glass collector Matt was brought in to be an independent judge on the tin foil sculpture competition and by the end of the quiz there was a battle for top spot. Alex Jeremy captained his team to victory winning with a 2-point lead over rival team captain Andy Marsh.
We have had so much fun that we have agreed to do it again. FIGS London volunteers are going to take it in turns to be quizzmaster sharing the responsibility and mixing up the format of the show.
